Acupuncture
In the simplest sense, acupuncture is the application of small-gauge needles to specific points on the body for the purpose of eliciting physiological responses resulting in therapeutic homeostatic effects. In a broader sense, acupuncture is an ancient procedure used in Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) for the treatment of whole-body conditions. Whole-body is so important! Sometimes clinical signs of a patient are the only thing that gets attention. My question regularly is, “What is causing those clinical signs?” Let’s try to get to the root of the problem and not get lost in the clinical signs.
Acupuncture can be used to help most problems your dog is having and improve overall health. Some believe that acupuncture is only useful for musculoskeletal issues; however, acupuncture along with herbal therapy can be very helpful for medical conditions as well. Some conditions Dr. DeDeo has success treating in dogs are seizures, arthritis, skin problems, neurologic issues, intervertebral disc disease, and performance issues in working dogs. Using acupuncture along with regular veterinary medicine is a great combination overcoming issues. Dr. DeDeo finds Traditional Chinese Medicine (TCM) can be easily integrated with your regular veterinarian therapies and helps improve the patient’s quality of life or cure the issue all together.
“It does not matter whether medicine be old or new, so long as it brings about a cure.” ~Jen Hsou Lin, DVM, Ph.D
